  • PRIMARY FUNCTION
    • Oversees the operation of the laboratory. Ensures all required policies and procedures of the laboratory are followed. Work involves the supervision, training and maintenance of laboratory instraments.Trains new and current staff on laboratory testing. Assists the laboratory manager with daily operations.
  • ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
    • This list may not include all of the duties that may be assigned.

    • Assists the Laboratory/ X-Ray Manager as follows:
    • Lab supervisors are assigned to certain offices/regional loop areas and will travel daily to these offices.
    • Reviews Laboratory Policy & Procedure Manual annually for correct contents. Ensures that all laboratory department policies/ procedures are read and signed by staff and Lab Director annually.
    • Ensure that each laboratory maintains and follows Pediatric Associates Quality Assessment program.
    • Monitors test analysis and specimen integrity to ensure proper patient care. 5.Assist the Lab Manager with training new hires or retraining of current Lab/Xray staff.
    • Assists the Lab Manager with employee performance evaluation, competency, continuous education, and motivation.
    • Assist the Lab Manager in assuring that remedial or corrective actions take place when staff or test systems deviate from the laboratory’s specified performance specifications.
    • Ensure that all lab & X-Ray safety practices are followed and that any problems are properly reported and documented.
    • Ensure Lab Staff are able to perform QC testing and recognize deviation from acceptable values.
    • Responsible for all maintenance and calibration of the instruments and ensure that all equipment is in good working condition.
    • Ensure lab staff prepare and follow weekly and monthly Quality Control (QC) procedures.
    • Ensure lab staff are maintaining 100% on proficiency testing. Follow up on proficiency testing results and reports.
    • Ensure lab staff are appropriately ordering supplies & reagents and monitoring any waste.
    • Assists the Lab Manager with the integration of new offices.
    • Fills in for lab coverage when needed in certain staffing situations.
  • PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS
    • Education:
      • High School Diploma or equivalent. Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant / LPN Program or equivalent.

        Prefered, graduated from an approved MLT program, with current state of Florida MLT license or Bachelors of Science in a science related field (biology, chemistry, microbiology).


    • Licensure:
      • Prefer license: Medical AssistantPrefer license: State of FL Clinical Laboratory TechnicianPrefer license: phlebotomist.

    • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
      • Knowledge of laboratory quality control requirements. Knowledge of universal precaution procedures in medical safety practices. Skilled in phlebotomy. Ability to communicate with physician staff to efficiently order testing and notify abnormal results. Ability to react calmly to stressful situations. Ability to organize tasks. Knowledge of basic medical terminology. Ability to assess emergency situations and act accordingly. Maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees and the public.

        Knowledge of the principles and practices of employee development to train, delegate and mentor staff. Knowledge of medical safety practices and standard requirements. Skills in identifying problems, researching and recommending resolutions. Skill in preparing records, writing reports and responding to correspondence. Skills in maintaining department quality assurance.

        Skill in exercising a high degree of initiative, judgement, discretion and decision-making. Skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public. Ability to establish quality control standards. Ability to plan, prioritizes, organize and direct the work of others. Ability to communicate clearly.


    • Experience:
      • Must meet the Lab Technician job experience. Plus a minimum of 5 (five) years laboratory experience. 1 (one) year supervisory and/or managerial experience prefered.
