Clinic Support is an individual who is responsible for processing requests and results for labs, x-rays, and other diagnostic tests according to our policies and procedures. They also handle medication refill requests and any stat procedures for patients. The clinic support staff will communicate with parents or patients via phone and patient portal providing excellent customer service. They document all transactions in the appropriate patient chart for continuity of care.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Proficient in Electronic Medical Records
  • Minimum of 2-years’ experience as a Medical Assistant preferred but not required
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred but not required
  • BLS certification preferred but not required

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Exceptional customer service skills
  • Knowledge of documentation skills, troubleshooting, resolving conflict, critical thinking, and good clinical judgement
  • Knowledge of Health Insurance and Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)
  • Ability to communicate effectively over the telephone and in person
  • Ability to work in a high call volume environment working efficiently and ability to multi-task
  • Ability to remain calm during stressful situations
  • Ability to relate to persons with diverse educational, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form

Essential Functions:

  • Answer telephone in a polite and professional manner. Take patient messages and reply as able or forward to provider for more direction with EMR documentation.
  • Act as a liaison for the patients and the practice over the phone and in person
  • Process prescription refills
  • Complete scheduling of STAT tests ordered with follow through of results.
  • Import labs and radiology results with notification to provider. Complete any instructions to the patient as directed.  Call parents to notify normal results.
  • Distributes DME as ordered by providers.
  • Complete XIX forms for DME, supplies and/or equipment
  • Complete WIC forms
  • Backs up Medical Assistants in clinic as needed and necessary
  • Report end of day pending lab and x-ray tests to the provider on call.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit and use hands and fingers, handle, type or feel. The employee is frequently to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision.

Work Environment and Work Conditions:

Position is in a well-lighted office and clinic environment. Occasional work on weekends as required. Interacts with staff, visitors, patients, and agencies under all conditions/circumstances. May be exposed to infectious diseases, and conditions. ABCD Pediatrics is a smoke-free, drug free, and alcohol-free campus.
